WHY IS HAVING A FULL REMAP A BETTER OPTION THAN GETTING A PLUG-IN TUNING BOX?

There are many companies that are offering plug-in tuning boxes. However when trying to gain better performance from your engine, a full remap is irrefutably the better option. A tuning box sends false sensor values throughout the complete rev-range. This tells the ECU that there is not enough fuel entering the engine, the ECU then over-fuels in order to gain performance. This leads to faster fuel consumption. Although performance gains are made with a plug-in tuning box, they are at the cost of high emissions, higher engine temperatures, and general abuse of the engine. This may result in poor running, black smoke emitting from the exhaust, clogged injectors, rough idle, and engine cut-out. Also over fueling can result in bore washing which will dramatically reduce the life of any engine.

When looking at the cost of a full remap compared to a plug-in tuning box, don’t think purely on the cost of the upgrade itself. The future costs that may be incurred through installing a plug-in box are considerably higher than that of a full remap. In fact a full remap creates better performance throughout with increased fuel economy. In the long run a full remap will actually save you money, not cost you more. A full remap will take into account all factors and will deliver much smoother performance with much better gains and again the key thing is this is all dealt with in a completely safe way.

HOW DOES THE REMAP IMPROVE THE VEHICLE?

Our engine remap alters the fuel, boost and torque characteristics of the engine. We typically tune: Fuel maps, Turbo Pressure, Turbo Pressure Temp, Injectors, Injection on part throttle.  We can also customise Torque Limiters, DPF function, EGR Function and Speed Limiters.

Our remapping offers a fully controllable change to the engine characteristics, whilst still operating with full engine feedback control and within all the preset engine sensor limits.

WILL MY VEHICLE USE LESS FUEL?

The other main benefit of remapping will be a reduction in fuel consumption.

When we remap a vehicle, especially when fuel saving is the priority we focus on improving the low end torque in particular and widening the power-band as far as we can.

With the extra torque, especially at the bottom of the rev range, you will see a fuel saving. This is because it will require less throttle input to maintain speeds, you can drive in a higher gear at a slower speed as well as helping significantly when fully laden, towing or on gradients and even in start stop traffic.

If you combine these factors with adjusting your driving style to make the most of the extra low end torque you will see an improvement in fuel consumption. This is most effective on turbo-diesel engines where the savings could be as much as 20%.

CAN YOU REVERSE A REMAP?

The software itself is 100% reversible in terms of engine drivability and performance.

DO YOU KEEP A COPY OF THE ORIGINAL FACTORY FILE?

Yes.  It is kept in secure on our servers, archival storage and can even email you a copy so you have it.  Should you ever require your vehicle to put back to original we can do it simply.

IS AN ECU REMAP LEGAL?

YES – There is nothing illegal about remapping an ECU on an engine. Although you should inform your insurance company of any alterations made to the vehicle.

WILL MY TRUCK BE OUT OF SERVICE?

Most of the time we perform all work on-site so the truck is not out of action for any time at all.
